Abnormal heating associated with high resistance or excessive current flow is the root cause of many problems associated within electrical systems. By using infrared thermography, invisible thermal signatures can be identified and corrected before major or irreversible damage occurs resulting in major downtime, component damage, or electrical fire.

Prevention is always cheaper than cure. Preventing the loss of one key electrical component easily pays for a Barak inspection, service follow-up, and any component repair - sometimes many times over.

When a current flows through most electric circuits, some of this electrical energy is converted into heat. This is perfectly normal. However, if there is abnormally high resistance within the circuit or high current flow, intense heat is generated, which even in the short-term is wasteful of energy usage and potentially damaging to the system itself or the business related operations it’s there to service. Under-sized conductors, loose connections or excessive current flow, for example, may cause abnormally high unwanted heating that can result in dangerously hot electrical circuits. Components can literally become hot enough to melt, cause electrical fires, or explode!

Barak products, such as the K6700 and K6900 infrared cameras allow trained technicians to see heat signatures associated with high electrical resistances long before any faulty circuit becomes hot enough to cause major damage to your electrical systems. Many industries have invested in and continue to employ the use of Barak Infrared Cameras and Electrical Inspection Services to maintain their electrical distribution systems at the optimum operational standards.

Applied Electrical Inspections include:

  • Preventative infrared thermography;
  • Inspections of entire electrical systems and circuitry to identify abnormally high heat signatures thereby preventing wasting of energy, ensuring optimal energy use, avoiding premature breakdowns of components, and sidelining unscheduled down times;
  • The inspecting of utility electricity networks, high voltage distribution, switchyards and substations, service transformers, switchgears, breakers, meters, local distribution networks, hybrid microcircuits, solder joints, circuit board components, semiconductor devices, and more can be included…;
  • Detecting heat produced by current flow through a contact with high electrical resistance typically associated with switch contacts and connectors;
  • Isolating high resistances caused by poor surface contacts;
  • Identifying an over loaded circuit or multi-phase imbalance problems;
  • Identifying phase imbalances, or undersized fuses which can cause both ends of the fuse to overheat;
  • Locating imbalances of a service or a faulty current transformer which can seriously impact on your utility bills;
  • *And any and all specific inspection tasks as required by our clients that are within the technological capabilities of Barak hardware and software.

When you fail to inspect :

  • Locating a problem before it becomes critical is our primary goal, the images below represent $17000 worth of damaged electrical gear due to a poorly torqued bolt on a main breaker. This fault could have caused a major fire resulting in the loss of the entire cabinet costing the clients thousands more to replace.
